A note on Orifice Unions – ASME/ANSI B16.36

As a reminder, orifice unions begin at the 300# class and increase from there. We have had several previous requests for orifice flanges in the 150# pressure class, and we have to offer the 300# class or greater as an alternative. The reason for this is 1) ASME has not provided dimensions for a 150# orifice set under B16.36 specifications and 2) the aforementioned is so because 150# class flanges are generally not thick enough at the base of the flange to provide you with the material necessary to drill and tap your desired instrumentation for your application.

Texas Flange Bike Run

Over the summer of 2013 I got the pleasure of riding my bicycle across Iowa during Ragbrai, an annual bike ride held there.  I had the privilege of riding with a fellow named Scott Stoll  who has rode his bicycle around the world.  Scott is one of those visionary types who cares more about doing something unique than about just making money.  I like him a lot and thus when he brought me the idea of getting a raft for our bikes so we could ride them in the water I bit hard.  I bought one for myself and one for him.  We have always tried to run Texas Flange with low overhead to keep prices down.  You won’t see “Texas Flange” on the side of a Nascar anytime soon, but this is the kind of sponsorship we can get into.  Scot Stoll’s water based biking adventures are now sponsored by Texas Flange.  J

ASME Flange standard set...again.

As a reminder, the latest edition of ASME* flange standardization, ASME B16.5-2013, has been updated as of this April and serves as a revision of ASME B16.5-2009 for ASME flanges. The next edition for ASME flanges is scheduled for release in approximately two years. Texas Flange will review this edition upon its release as we do for all carbon steel flanges, stainless steel flanges and alloy flanges.

As the needs of our customers for various flanges are often comprehensive in nature, and as flanges are a critical component of an ever evolving industry, Texas Flange strives to ensure that we are up to date with the latest editions of the governing specifications of all flanges and that we adhere to those flange specifications. Because we are a leader in the flange industry, Texas Flange provides flanges and other products compatible with the most cutting edge technology on the flange market.

Naturally, as many of the applications our customers have involve flanges from old, archived, or outdated specifications, we keep these flange specifications on file in order to provide both product and information to anyone in need. Having been in the flange business since 1986, we understand how important it is to review the past and work through the present with an appreciation for the timeline of the flange industry. This allows us to move forward in an efficient manner, anticipate any changes down the road, and adjust accordingly so that we serve you, our customers, better.
